I spent the next day alone. I didn’t want any visitors or interruptions of my thoughts. The whole day was spent meditating, and most importantly giving thanks for the breath of life, which could easily be taken away.

Saturday rolled in and it was a most gloriously beautiful day, the day of my departure. A beginning to what was never ended. The vibrations that I had were all positive and my aura shined brighter than a morning star.

“I already signed you out,” Tonnet said. “What’s taking you so long in there anyway?”

Tonnet had brought me a new fit to step out under the sun in. She got me some black Stacey Adams, casual not dressy. A pair of tan Maurice Malone pleated slacks with a matching black-and-tan button-up and a black leather jacket. For my head, Tonnet crowned me with a tan-and-black spotted Dobb hat without the brim. It seemed that baby girl knew my flavor better than I thought. Simply put, she had me lookin’ fly like a certified mack.

“Hello,” I heard Tonnet answering the phone as I was getting out the shower. “Yeah, he’s in the shower right now. Call back in about ten minutes. Bye. Baby that was Ron, sounded like she was crying,” she told me as she stood outside of the bathroom door.

I had just shaved my head and was feeling so fresh and so clean. Crying, I thought. I wonder what the fuck's up with Ron. Bone probably had gotten ahold of her ass again. I didn’t even think any more about it. I jumped fresh into the threads that Tonnet had brought me. I looked like a Roc-A-Fella nigga and felt that I could mack Oprah.

The phone rang off the hook. “I got it, baby girl,” I told Tonnet and picked up.

It was Ron and she was unable to get out what she was trying to say. Finally, she managed to say, “Tay's dead! Tay's dead! Low—she's dead!”

“What you talkin’ ‘bout, Ron? I just talked to Tay the other day!”

“She's dead! My sister's gone!”

“Calm down, Ron. Where are you at?”

She sniffled. “I’m at your house.”

“Just give me a minute, Ron. I’m about to check out and I’ll be right over. Stay put, Ron.”

With wide eyes of concern, Tonnet asked, “What’s wrong?”

“Ron's talkin’ bout Tay's dead. I don’t know what the fuck's goin’ on. Fuck! Let me hurry up! I’ma just drop you off at Isis crib and go see what’s up. You already signed me out, right? Well come on, I’m ready.”

Whenever things started to look up something bad happened. The day had started as a beautiful day and then that discomforting news. Tonnet had driven Isis’s car to the hospital to swoop me up. It was a good thing that Isis was off work that day. I was mentally drained and I was hoping that Ron had made some sort of mistake. I was tripping because Tay had said she wanted to talk to me and now she was dead.

“Low, don’t get into any trouble,” Tonnet said.
